Prince Edward Island (PEI PNP)

Prince Edward Island (PEI), composed of the island itself and several surrounding islands, is the smallest province of Canada.

PEI is often referred to as the “Birthplace of Canada.” The Charlottetown Conference, which led to the formation of the country, was held in PEI in 1864. This province, known not only for its lush agricultural lands and beautiful shores but also as an economically thriving hub centered around agriculture, tourism, and fishing.

Through the provincial nominee programs of Prince Edward Island, prospective immigrants with the desired skills and experiences for the province can obtain provincial nomination certificates. Subsequently, they can apply for permanent residency in Canada with the Canadian government.

Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Programs (PEI PNP)

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Programs (PEI PNP) were launched in 2001 to attract and retain more immigrants who can contribute to the province’s economic needs and labor market and help achieve economic growth. These provincial programs attract immigrants with skills, experience, and qualifications who settle on the island.

PEI has the highest per capita immigration rate in Canada. Before the introduction of these programs, the immigration rate was about 1.6% compared to 0.9% nationally. The province has the highest rate of new immigrant admissions in Canada and has welcomed over 2,000 new immigrants annually since 2015. It is expected that Prince Edward Island will continue to attract an increasing number of immigrants.

Before the introduction of the PNP, the province received fewer than 200 new immigrants per year. Since the introduction of the PNP in 2001 and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) program in 2017, the province has attracted more immigrants. The AIP allows employers in the Atlantic provinces of Canada to hire foreign workers for positions they cannot fill locally. The Atlantic provinces include New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and PEI.

The Prince Edward Island Express Entry streams are referred to as enhanced programs because they align with the federal Express Entry system. They also have base immigration programs that are not aligned with the federal Express Entry system.

When nominated through an advanced provincial program like PEI PNP Express Entry, you receive an additional 600 CRS points. This increase ensures that you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the next draw. You also receive your nomination through the Express Entry profile.

Most immigration programs under provincial nominee programs are base streams. This means they are not aligned with the Express Entry system. Candidates nominated through provincial programs must apply directly to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
