Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) 

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is part of Canada’s Express Entry system, allowing skilled tradespeople to gain permanent residency. 

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Work Experience
  • 2+ years of full-time paid work (3,120 hrs) in the last 5 years.
  • Must match NOC Major Groups 72, 73, 82, 83, 92, 93 (excluding 726, 932), Minor Group 6320, or Unit Group 62200.
  • Duties must align with NOC descriptions.
  • Student/volunteer work does not count.
  1. Language Proficiency
  • CLB 5 (speaking & listening).
  • CLB 4 (reading & writing).
  1. Jb Offer/Certification
  • One-year full-time valid job offer or certificate of qualification from a Canadian authority.
  1. Proof of Funds
  • Required unless working in Canada with a valid job offer.

Certification of Qualification

  • Apply to the provincial/territorial/federal body responsible for your trade.
  • Provide proof of training and experience.

Work Experience Rules

  • Full-time: 30 hrs/week × 24 months.
  • Part-time: Multiple jobs can be combined.
  • Extra hours above 30 per week do not count.

Application Steps

  1. Confirm eligibility (work, language, certification/job offer).
  2. Get certification or secure a job offer.
  3. Gather documents (proof of work, language test, settlement funds, certification/job offer).
  4. Create Express Entry profile → receive CRS score.
  5. Wait for Invitation to Apply (ITA).
  6. Submit PR application within 60 days (include medical, biometrics, police checks, fees).
  7. Receive COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence).
  8. Move to Canada, finalize landing, and settle (SIN, health card, housing, work).
